KERATECTOMY (PRK)
PHOTOREFRACTIVE
KERATECTOMY (PRK)
is the sculpting of the cornea's surface via the use of the excimer
cold laser. The laser vaporizes the surface layer through a series
of extremely precise laser pulses under the control of a computer.
PRK has been approved in the United States by the FDA for the
treatment and correction of low to moderate myopia.
While
not currently authorized for far-sightedness, PRK is being
investigated in the United States for that particular use.
