LASIK:
Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis

LASIK means "to shape the cornea within using a laser". The LASIK procedure is very successful in treating low to high levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It corrects the vision by reshaping the outer cornea so that light may pass through more precisely on the retina.

There are three steps in the LASIK procedure:
  1. Using an instrument known as a microkeratome, a highly skilled surgeon removes a thin layer of the cornea tissue, leaving it attached as a flap that is gently folded back.
  2. The Excimer laser removes a pre determined amount of tissue from the inner cornea, reshaping it flatter to correct nearsightedness, steeper to correct farsightedness and/or more spherical to correct astigmatism.
  3. The flap of cornea tissue is set back into its original place.

The Autonomous Excimer Laser actually tracks the eye's subtle movements so that each laser pulse arrives precisely on target

MedEye Associates are highly skilled in this, the newest of the vision corrective surgery technologies.
